A Lean Canvas is a one page business plan. Instead of a thirty page document nobody reads, you answer the nine questions every business has to answer, in the order that surfaces risk fastest. It works for any idea, no matter how niche or unknown, because it never asks about your industry. It only asks who hurts, how badly, what the fix is, and how money moves.

Fill the boxes in this order

The biggest mistake is starting with your solution. Start with the problem and the people who have it, because businesses fail by building something nobody needs, not by building it imperfectly.

  1. Problem. The top one to three pains. Write how people cope today. That existing alternative is your true competitor.
  2. Customer segments. Who exactly has the problem. Then name your early adopters, the narrowest and most desperate slice.
  3. Unique value proposition. One sentence on why you are different and worth attention. Add a high level concept like "X for Y".
  4. Solution. Only now, the simplest fix for each problem. One bullet each.
  5. Channels. How you reach those people, from SEO and communities to partnerships and outreach.
  6. Revenue streams. How you charge and what a customer is worth over time.
  7. Cost structure. What it costs to build and run, plus what it costs to win one customer.
  8. Key metrics. The handful of numbers that prove it is working.
  9. Unfair advantage. The thing competitors cannot copy or buy. Often blank at first, and that is fine.

Why it works for any niche

The narrower your idea, the easier the canvas gets. A subscription box for left handed gardeners and software for oil rig inspectors fill the same nine boxes. When you know your people intimately, the problem, the segment, and the unfair advantage become your strongest boxes, not your weakest.
